October Residency

Singers of all ages (18+) and abilities are welcome. Songs will be taught by ear.

This 9 night residency includes:

30 hours of group singing where you will form a small choir, working with captivating harmonies and polyphony in Bulgarian music. You will be provided with sheet music (where appropriate, for example arranged songs), lyrics in both Cyrillic and Latin letters, with translations in English and cultural context, as well as opportunities for you to make your own recordings of the learning material.

2 hours of private lessons with Gergana Dimitrova learning technique, placement and authentic ornamentation specific to each region. In these two private lessons, lasting one hour each, you’ll benefit from personalized vocal tuition and Gergana will tailor your song choices to suit your particular voice and natural colour. You’ll be able to focus on any specific region or song you’d like to work on, and are welcome to record your lessons for your private use and continued learning.

A night of live Bulgarian Folklore music and dancing.

A day visit into Bulgaria’s Balkan mountain range, Stara Planina.

9 nights all-inclusive full board in Gostilitsa, a Bulgarian village, surrounded by breath taking nature. Accommodated in twin rooms, sharing with one other participant. Board includes 3 meals a day and a glass of wine or beer each evening. There is a small outdoor swimming pool you’ll have full access to.

Return transport from Sofia to Gostilitsa.
